講座詳細
This one semester course is intended to follow on from the introductory translation course held in the first semester, and is suitable for anyone who has taken my Japanese-English translation class previously, since all the texts will be new. There will be no basic introductory section, though introductory prints and PowerPoint materials will be made available for anyone who wishes them. Instead, we will look at the translation process, various kinds of translation, and a little light translation theory, none of which has been covered in detail in previous courses.
The next group of classes will focus on advanced translation exercises that reqiore sophisticated translation strategies that will equip those attending the class to tackle a short ‘set translation’ which will be carefully analyzed in class.
In the second half of the course we will work on a longer translation project, alayzing the translation problems and the techniques we can use to solve them. Finally, we will sum up what we have learned in the duration of the course as a whole.
This course is designed either for those who have not taken my Japanese-English translation course before, but also for repeaters.
This atmosphere is always informal, and participants have come from a range of age groups and educational and professional backgrounds. So, even if you have no experience of translating, do not hesitate to give it a try. Who knows, you may even catch the ‘translation bug’.
